Why do we have this website and the old websites you ask? Well it is simple. I designed all of the old websites (and this new website) myself and it was a learning process for me, and quickly became overwhelming trying to add photos, content and information and keep everything working, and it got so bad I all but gave up trying to keep up with it. Since there is so much information on our old websites, I decided the best plan of action was to add a new webpage and just start over and leave the old websites in tact so all the old information would still be available.

About Chad Ferguson - North Texas Catfish Guide Service

A little brief history about me first. I am a native Texan born and raised in the Fort Worth Texas area and have been fishing as long as I can remember. I grew up fishing from a very young age for anything that would take a hook, you name it I would fish for it. I spent the bast majority of my fishing time in the early years as kid fishing with my father, grandfather and cousins on Possum Kingdom Lake, and then on Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Worth. I spent a good bit of time chasing catfish and learning through trial and error but still pretty much fished for anything that would take a hook.

I had a brief period where I chased those green lipped trash fish (also known as Bass) but it didn't last long. While I was a good Bass fisherman I realized that the chunking and winding was way too much work and I quit fishing for anything but catfish and engrossed myself in learning how to catch catfish.

I think it was 2001 or 2002 after a 10 year run as a Paramedic and Operations Manager in the Emergency Medical Services field with no time for fishing, I started guiding for catfish on Eagle Mountain Lake and a few other lakes around North Texas and the rest is pretty much history. It was also during that time that I founded the Texas Catfishing Resource, Redneck's Catfish Bait Soap, and Redneck's Juglines.

I have had the honor of fishing with some of the best clients, and some of the best fisherman in the United States and have learned a lot along the way from them all. Every single one of my clients that fished with me the first two years I was guiding are still clients today that fish with me several times a year, and most of my business comes from repeat and referral business I have a few clients that have fished with me throughout the years that have even gone on to become guides themselves.

http://www.abugarcia.com/I am married to a wonderful woman and am fortunate that she is willing to put up with all of my nonsense, and have two great kids who both love to fish as well. I live in Saginaw Texas (North of Fort Worth) and have for the last 13 years.

If you want more details and information go to the About Catfish Guide Page and read on to get the full story about me and my history with Texas Catfishing and also make sure to check out my blog and it will tell you more about my crazy life and all my misadventures!

What we fish for and a BRIEF overview of fishing prime times!

I get a ton of phone calls about this so I wanted to put a brief overview on the front page here and will include some more detail on the Catfish Guide Frequently Asked Questions Page.

Let's start with the most common questions about Texas catfish and the other fish species.

Let me preface what I am about to say with this. If you are thinking about fishing and have a certain time in mind when you want to go and don't know what to expect, just give me a call or shoot me an email and ask me. I will give you a candid an honest answer on what the fish are doing at the current time and what I expect them to be doing at the time that you are interested in fishing. This will give you a good basis to work off of on what you want to accomplish or what will happen on your fishing trip with North Texas Catfish Guide Service.

Trophy Blue Catfish

This is one of the top two phone calls that I get. It usally starts with "Hey, I want to catch a big catfish". Now let me start by saying that we catch big catfish all year long, so any month of the year when you are fishing with us you have a chance of catching a big catfish, but what most of our clients are looking for is the trophy blue catfish guided fishing trips where we specifically target big fish only. You do have a chance of catching a big Texas blue catfish any time of the year on any given day but it is not near as likely during the warmer months, and they are very inconsistent.

The absolute best time for catching TROPHY blue catfish is during the late Fall and  Winter months. The big fish usually start being boated on a semi frequent basis in mid October depending on the weather and really start to peak around Thanksgiving. The big fish bite will generally be best from late November through the middle or end of February or possibly into mid March just depending on the weather and how quickly it warms. The absolute best bet for trophy blue catfish is November, December, January and February which are generally the coldest months in Texas, but that being said it is Texas and the weather changes fast around here. It is during this time that we catch the biggest fish with the most consistancy and have the absolute best results.

On trophy blue catfish fishing trips we specifically target these big fish, and do so with great success. We use techniques to pattern and target these bigger fish that greatly increase the chances of catching a Texas trophy blue catfish. Fish up to 50 lbs are very common and fish in the OVER 50 lb range are caught frequently as well.  We generally don't catch a lot of small "box" fish on these trips, as they are typically solely focused on trophy catfish. All fish over 10 lbs are released after photos, no exceptions.

For more information on fishing for trophy blue catfish with North Texas Catfish Guide Service visit our trophy blue catfish page.

Numbers of Catfish - Blue Catfish or Channel Catfish

This is also one of the top two phones calls I get about guided catfish fishing trips. and usually starts with "Hey, I want to catch a whole bunch of catfish".  Now let me preface this by saying that we fish for two different types of catfish when fishing for numbers of catfish, blue catfish and channel catfish. Different people have different preferences on which one they would like to catch on occassion but for most folks that just want to catch a bunch of fish they really don't care. There are very different methods and techniques for catching blue catfish and channel catfish in Texas but you do on occassion catch a good mix of both. For the most part you can catch good numbers of fish during most of the year but there are definately certain times that are just unbeleivable fishing for blue catfish and channel catfish. These are the times of the year when it is like the old saying of "shooting fish in a barrel". For more information other than what is listed here go to our blue catfish page and our channel catfish page.

CHANNEL CATFISH FISHING TRIPS ARE AVAILABLE ON: Lake Lewisville, Eagle Mountain Lake, Lake Worth and The Brazos River

BEST MONTHS FOR NUMBERS OF  CHANNEL CATFISH
-  The channel catfish bite for numbers of fish is generally good all year long. With the absolute peaks occuring in the Summer and Fall.

BLUE CATFISH FISHING TRIPS ARE AVAILABLE ON: Lake Lewisville, Eagle Mountain Lake, Lake Worth

BEST MONTHS FOR NUMBERS OF BLUE CATFISH -  The blue catfish bite for numbers of fish is generally good all year long but the absolute best months generally occur during April and early May. This is some of the most fun you will ever have fishing for numbers of fish and we usually catch some bigger catfish to boot.

Spring Blue Catfish Dr Bob

Dr Bob and Friends with a limit of Blue Catfish, what an amazing morning of fishing we had on Lake Lewisville!

Cormorant Catfishing

This usually starts with "Hey, I heard about catching catfish under those cormorant turkey bird roosts". Fishing under the water turkeys (texan for cormorant) is something we do. This is a very unique style and method of catching catfish and is good for catching blue catfish and for catching channel catfish. It does require some very specific weather conditions to be a true success but this is amazing technique for catching Texas catfish that most people don't believe when I try to explain it to them.

CORMORANT CATFISHING TRIPS ARE AVAILABLE ON: Lake Lewisville and Lake Worth Only

BEST MONTHS FOR CORMORANT CATFISHING - October through March, the water turkeys in North Texas usually leave after this so there is rarely opportunity after mid March.

White Bass (Sandbass, Sandies)

Sandbass fishing is a lot of fun, especially if you want to take kid's fishing. It is an easy way to put some huge numbers of fish in the boat in a very short amount of time without a lot of work or downtime. It is often possible to catch hundred of sandbass (white bass, sandies) in a few hours during peak months.

SANDBASS FISHING TRIPS ARE AVAILABLE ON: Lewisville, Eagle Mountain, Brazos River

BEST MONTHS FOR SAND BASS FISHING: Late February through July/August with my favorite time being June and July when the fish are schooling and feeding on top waters.

Hybrid Striped Bass (Hybrids)

Hybrid fishing is amazing and typically is best when the sandbass fishing is best. Often times we can catch hybrids at the same time as the white bass, as they typically feed below the white bass. Fishing with slabs or sassy shad below the schooling white bass is extremely productive as is drifting. Hybrid striped bass fishing trips are only available on Lake Lewisville as there are no Hybrids in Eagle Mountain or Lake Worth.

HYBRID STRIPED BASS TRIPS ARE AVAILABLE ON: Lake Lewisville Only

BEST MONTH FOR HYBRID STRIPED BASS FISHING:
Late February through mid August.

Gar Fishing

Gar, considered by many to be a "trash fish" are an amazing fish to catch on rod and reel in the Summer. These prehistoric fish put up an amazing fight and when caught in shallow water will flip and roll and put on aerial shows similar to a tarpon, that's why I call them "Texas Tarpon". These trips are catch and release only and are available in the Summer only (Mid June through August). Gar trips are subject to limited availability, check with me in advance on scheduling.

ROD AND REEL GAR TRIPS ARE AVAILABLE ON: Lewisville and Eagle Mountain

BEST MONTHS FOR GAR FISHING: Mid June through August

Flathead Catfish (Yellow Catfish)

Flathead catfish are true trophies and are catfish that get very little fishing pressure from rod and reel fishermen. Fishing for flathead catfish in Texas can produce some true trophy class fish and these fish put up an amazing fight. The down side is they are very ellusive fish and require a significant time committment to produce good numbers and good size fished. Fishing for flathead catfish can be very slow fishing with very little action but when you do get a run from a big flathead catfish it is often  a fish that you will remember for a lifetime.  These trips are bust done at night but there is a very brief period of time in the Summer that usually lasts about two weeks that I have had tremendous success producing big trophjy Texas flathead catfish during the daytime.

FLATHEAD CATFISH TRIPS ARE AVAILABLE ON: Lewisville, Eagle Mountain, Lake Worth and the Brazos River

BEST MONTHS FOR FLATHEAD CATFISH: May, June, July, August and September
