North Texas Catfish Guide Service is proud to call Lake Lewisville home. Lake Lewisville is located in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex North of Lewisville Texas and South of Denton Texas. Lake Lewisville is about a twenty minute drive from Dallas Texas or DFW International Airport, or less than a thirty minute drive from Fort Worth Texas. The Lake Lewisville area also hosts numerous dining and entertainment options making it a popular area for tourism.
Lake Lewisville was impounded in 1954 and covers a surface area of 29, 592 acres with a maxium depth of 67 feet. Lake Lewisville sits on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. Prior to Lake Lewisville being impounded in 1954, Lake Dallas and Garza Little Elm Reservoir existed in the area and then Lake Lewisville was built to join the old Garza Little Elm Reservoir and Lake Dallas.
Lake Lewisville has had a long standing reputation for being an excellent lake for catching Texas Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish and Flathead Catfish and was really put on the map in the late 1990's and early 2000's for producing amazing numbers of Trophy Blue Catfish. Lake Lewisville also held the state record flathead catfish during the 1980's as well. Lake Lewisville has been continually called "the best catfish lake in Texas" by many of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Biologists for many years. There is no doubt that Lake Lewisville holds excellent numbers of Blue Catfish, Trophy Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish and Flathead Catfish.
In addition to producing excellent catches of Catfish, Lake Lewisville also holds excellent numbers of Sandbass (White Bass) and Hybrid Striped Bass, and Gar. Lake Lewisville is a deep reservoir with lot's of main lake structure and plenty of flooded timber throughout the entire lake that was never cleared, leaving an excellent habitat for the Lake Lewisville Catfish, Lake Lewisville White Bass, Lake Lewisville Hybrid Striped Bass and Lake Lewisville White Bass. Much of the old Lake Dallas is full of flooded timber, the Hickory Creek and Little Elm arms are full of flooded timber, and the main lake of Lake Lewisville still holds large areas of flooded trees and timber that are still standing. Many areas of Lake Lewisville still have tree tops sticking out of the water in 50 foot of water. Lake Lewisville also has an excellent population of Threadfin Shad and Gizzard Shad.
Lake Lewisville's Hybrid Striped Bass population has really taken off in the last few years thanks to agressive stocking programs from Texas Parks and Wildlife. For Winter Fishing or Catfishing on Lake Lewisville North Texas Catfish Guide Service will Focus on Lake Lewisville Trophy Blue Catfish. The Lake Lewisville Trophy Blue Catfish Trips with North Texas Catfish Guide Service are Catch and Release only on all catfish over 10 lbs and all Trophy Catfish Trips are done with rod and reel. Most of the catfish will average 25-30 pounds but catfish over 50 lbs are abundant in Lake Lewisville. The best time of the year for Trophy Blue Catfish (also called High Fin Blue Catfish or Mississippi White Catfish) are November, December, January, February and Early March. While most of our fishing efforts are focused on catching Lake Lewisville Trophy Blue Catfish during our winter fishing trips on Lake Lewisville, Winter can also be an excellent time for catching Hybrid Striped Bass on Lake Lewisville as well.
We also have a great time with the Cormorant Catfishing on Lake Lewisville in the Fall and Winter for Lake Lewisville Blue Catfish and Lake Lewisville Channel Catfish. Cormorant Catfishing (also called "Fishing the Birds" or "Fishing the Water Turkeys") is a great way to catch a nice mess of Lake Lewisville Blue Catfish and Lake Lewisville Channel Catfish. Cormorant Catfishing Trips will start in early October and be good through the middle of spring, usually mid April. On Cormorant Catfishing trips on Lake Lewisville in the fall and winter most of the fish are usually blue catfish and average in size from one to ten pounds but an occasional Trophy Blue Catfish is possible and Blue Catfish in the 20-35 pound range are very common on cormorant catfishing trips on Lake Lewisville.
Once the weather at Lake Lewsiville begins to warm up the catfishing warms up as well. North Texas Catfish Guide Service will start focusing on structure fishing Lake Lewisville for Blue Catfish and Channel Catfish. The spring catfishing is some of the best fishing of the year for shear numbers of good quality catfish. It;s not uncommon to catch well over 100 Lake lewisville Blue Catfish on a spring trip with all the fish being 3 lbs and up with an occasional Trophy Blue Catfish in the mix as well. Spring Catfishing is typically excellent during the months of March, April and Early may with some amazing catches. This is one our favorite times of the year for catching numbers of "eating sized" 1-10 lb Blue Catfish. It is also in the Spring on Lake Lewisville that the White Bass and Hybrid Striped Bass really start putting their feedbags on anc really start feeding heavily making up for the cold water period. This period also encompasses the famous Texas White Bass run when the White Bass start spawning. Overall the spring is just an excellent time for catching numbers of fish whether it be White Bass (Sandbass) Hybrids or Catfish on Lake Lewisville.
Lake Lewisville is also known for large groups of feeding gulls in the late Winter and Spring that makes for some exciting fishing for White Bass (Sandbass) and Hybrid Striped Bass as wel during the late Winter on Lake Lewisville and Spring on Lake Lewisville.
As Summer approaches at Lake Lewisville, it will produce good numbers of Blue Catfish and Channel Catfish and some good sized fish as well. The rod and reel catfishing on Lake Lewisville remain good during the summer for the most part with good catches of Lake Lewisville Blue Catfish and Lake Lewisville Channel Catfish. . The White Bass and Hybrid Striped Bass fishing really heats up during the heat of the summer as well and fishing for Lake Lewisville White Bass and Lake Lewisville Hybrid Striped Bass generally remains excellent. White Bass and Hybrids will start surface feeding and we will use a number of techniques including slabbing, trolling, live bait fishing and top water fishing. When the days get really hot in the dead of summer, we will focus on fishing early mornings and late evenings and nights on Lake Lewisville. The catfishing stays great throughout the summer and some great catfishing will still take place on Lake Lewisville. Night fishing trips are also a great way to take in some Lake Lewsiville catfish in the summer and usually produces some really good numbers of catfish. We also offer Jug Fishing trips on Lake Lewisville during the summer for Lake Lewisville Blue Catfish and Lake Lewisville Channel Catfish. Rod and Reel fishing at night is also available for Flatehead Catfish on Lake Lewisville as well as Night Fishing for Blue Catfish and Lake Lewisville Channel Catfish. Gar fishing is also good on rod and reel during the days in the summer.
The bottom line is, the catfishing is great all year long and anytime is a great time to catch some Lake Lewisville Catfish.
